Community Living Association is a private, nonprofit organization that employs over 250 people supporting people with developmental disabilities to be independent, self-confident, and valued members of the community.
In 1967, a small group of parents and educators of people with disabilities got together to organize a training program for people with disabilities. This program took place in the basement of a church and was funded with money raised in the community. From these humble beginnings, what is now Community Living Association(CLA) is now the second largest employer in Houlton. CLA is a private, nonprofit agency that employs over 250 people who support people with disabilities. It’s mission is to involve community and family in promoting the highest quality of life for people with developmental disabilities by assisting them to be independent, self-confident, and valued members of the community. CLA provides multiple Residential and Community Support options for people with disabilities. CLA also provides case management services from Bangor to Fort Kent. CLA is very proud of the quality of life we have been able to provide for the people we serve. We are lucky enough to have many great staff at CLA. Our average length of service is over ten years and approximately thirty percent of our staff have been here for over fifteen years. The length of service of our staff allows them to get to know the people they are serving and provides a greater continuity of care.
